Sith Happens

Ann and I had a great lunch date yesterday, viewing Star Wars Revenge of the Sith and spending a few rare hours free of little ones.

It was very good, and I’d rank it head and shoulders above the other prequels. It isn’t quite on the level of episodes IV through VI, but in fairness it is nearly impossible to render such an anti-climactic story in a climactic way. We all know what is going to happen, so the only question is how. Tough task.

Lucas tells archetypal stories. It is a dark tale of Anakin’s fall from grace. The real show stealer is Ian McDiarmid as the Emperor, who does a good job of seducing Anakin by exploiting his wants and fears. You really see the destructive nature of ambition, wants, fear of loss, and how the road to hell is paved with good intentions. The good in Anakin is exploited and twisted-that’s all I’ll say. Others will analyze the bejeevers out of this in political & religious terms and in context with the other movies. I’m not interested. It was a very good flick and leaves you with few quibbles on how Lucas ties up all the loose ends.
